Last September, we launched Hatch to enable Kiwis to mix and match world-class investments to grow their wealth their way. We’ve started by offering easy and affordable access to the US share markets, making it possible for all Kiwis to invest in the world’s most recognisable companies and funds.
Over 10,000 of you have signed up. Proof to us that Kiwi investors want a sophisticated, yet intuitive way to invest in the largest, most liquid share markets in the world.
Let us show you the money
We still remember popping champagne after the first $1,000,000 was invested through Hatch. Well, pass a case of Veuve, because we’re now celebrating you having invested over $30 mil!
Over 20,000 orders have been filled, mostly to buy and sell shares in companies, although about a fifth of all trades are with exchange-traded funds. With over 500 on offer, investors are taking advantage of the ability to invest directly in some of the largest and most interesting funds in the world, like the Vanguard S&P 500 (VOO), Vanguard US Total Stock Market (VTI), and Invesco PowerShares Nasdaq-100 (QQQ).
Who are our investors? Hatchlings (yes, we still call you that!) are professionals, travellers, athletes and creators of all genders. Your ages range from 18 to 79 years old and your investment portfolios from $50 through to six-figures. Some of you are investing for the very first time, and others have years of experience after cutting your teeth on markets closer to home.
It’s not just about tech
The most popular shares for Hatch investors are no big surprise. Companies that are technology-focused, but we also see buying trends in emerging sectors such as cannabis, meat alternatives, and mass media entertainment.
The most popular shares are:
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
Aurora Cannabis (ACB)
Beyond Meat (BYND)
Berkshire Hathaway B (BRK.B)
Canopy Growth Corp (CGC)
Cronos Cannabis (CRON)
A learning-focused community

This is just the beginning
It’s been a fantastic year. We’ve exceeded our expectations in the short time we’ve been up and running. What’s coming next? We’re not stopping at the US share markets. We’ve got our sights set on so much more to help Kiwis build and protect their wealth. But we’re not tellin’ just yet! You’re just going to have to come along for the ride.
We want to thank every single Hatchling who has supported us on this journey. We’re not building this platform for you; we’re building it with you. And for those of you still on the sidelines, maybe now’s the time to join the revolution. Happy Investing!
