Fear & Greed Index

Māori translation:
Definition

The Fear & Greed Index aims to measure share market investor sentiment. It was created by CNN Business to see whether emotions that waver from fear to neutral or greed are driving market movements — or volatility — and how much investors will pay for stocks at any given time. The index is based on an assumption that excessive fear can push stock prices down, while excessive greed can drive prices up. It can also reveal whether stocks are fairly priced, or overvalued or undervalued.

We acknowledge and thank the FMA, Dr Karena Kelly and Brook Taurua Grant, the RBNZ and the Māori Dictionary for their research which helped us with te Reo Māori kupu for this glossary.
